Abstract

Phase equilibria in the Gd2O3–SrO–CoO system were systematically studied at 1100 ℃ in air. Four quaternary phases: Sr1-xGdxCoO3-δ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.19) disordered cubic perovskite, Sr1-xGdxCoO3-δ (0.2 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) ordered perovskite with tetragonal structure, Sr2-yGdyCoO4-δ (0.8 ≤ y ≤ 1.2), Gd2SrCo2O7-δ and four ternary oxides: GdCoO3, SrCoO3-δ, Sr3Co2O7-δ, Gd2SrO4 were found to exist inside the ½ Gd2O3 –SrO – CoO system at 1100 ℃ in air. The structural parameters for all single-phase oxides were refined by the Rietveld method. The oxygen content in oxides was determined by dichromatometric titration. TGA measurements reveal that oxygen content is weakly changing with temperature in both Sr2-yGdyCoO4-δ and Gd2SrCo2O7-δ oxides. The phase diagram of the ½Gd2O3– SrO–CoO system at 1100 °C in air has been constructed.
