Abstract

Oxygen dissociation curves have been determined for whole blood from chicken and duck embryos, hatchlings and adults using the technique of Longmuir and Chow (1970). The oxygen affinity was considerably higher than reported previously. The functional significance of the O2-dissociation curve obtained in the present study is discussed in relation to arterial and venous PO2 and pH values reported in the literature.
