Abstract

The possibility of oxygen isotope exchange between (/sup 18/O)H/sub 2/O and H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ in the presence of fluorosulfonic acid was reexamined, and the results are reported. The results indicated that under the given experimental conditions water was a good enough nucleophilic to cleave the O-O bond of H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ or its derivative. Two possible mechanisms for the exchange are proposed.
