Abstract

Oximation of cycloalkanones (cyclododecanone and 4- tert-butylcyclohexanone) was studied in solid-liquid and liquid-liquid systems. Depending on temperature, hydroxylamine concentration etc., the reactions can occur in the bulk aqueous phase or can occur completely in the diffusion film. These reactions are amenable to micellar catalysis in a remarkable way. Micelles are markedly smaller in size as compared to typical diffusion film thickness. With sodium lauryl sulfate at a level of 0.1 M, enhancement in the rate of reaction by a factor of 70 was realized. Experimental data agree well with theoretical predictions.
