Abstract

Catalytic oxidation of methane was performed in molten Li 2CO 3-Na 2CO 3 immobilized on lithium aluminate. Pellets of the solid support with specific features were prepared and characterized. The evolution of the catalytic effect with temperature and the oxoacidity of the medium were systematically analyzed. C 2 yields and methane conversion increased substantially with temperature. The catalytic activity at 750°C was correlated with the presence of peroxide species in basic media (C 2 yield about 10% and methane conversion 14%). The influence of the proportion of molten carbonate in the Li 2CO 3-Na 2CO 3/LiAlO 2 system was also examined.
