Abstract

The influence of chromium additives on the structure and high-temperature oxidation resistance of Fe–Al-based alloys was studied. It was established that the properties of powders and compact fused materials did not significantly differ following high-temperature oxidation. The compositions containing chromium are less prone to oxidation since complex compounds are formed between alumina and chromium oxides. Chromium oxide films that have greater fracture toughness than aluminum oxide contribute to the formation of a dense protective scale.
