Abstract

The tripodal ligand copper(II) complexes Cu(NTB)CI 2·4H 2O and [Cu(NTB)Cl]Cl·H 2O are used as the catalysts in the oxidation of cyclohexene and styrene by t-butyl hydroperoxide. The catalytic oxidation of cyclohexene mainly gives allylic oxidation products, and the reaction of styrene gives epoxide. A free radical chain mechanism is involved in the oxidation. The effect of the addition of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxy free radical on the reaction is studied.
