Abstract

35S 0 was offered to wheat intact chloroplasts and 35S products analysed. Radioactivity in SO 4 2− was determined after precipitation by BaCl 2. Bimane derivatives of S compounds were separated by HPLC and detected by fluorimetry and radioactivity monitoring. It has been observed that fresh chloroplasts were able to oxidize 35S 0 to 35SO 4 2− via the production of 35S 2O 3 2− and 35SO 3 2−. From the characteristics of this oxidation, the operation of chloroplastic enzymatic mechanisms is proposed.
