Abstract
Mesoxalic acid decarboxylates on a polycrystalline gold electrode giving CO 2 and H 3O + as the only products. A well-developed four-electron wave is obtained and a mechanism is given in agreement with the experimental results. Two different types of inhibition are detected. The first is caused by intermediate-poison adsorption and the second by oxide formation.
