Abstract

Laminated and monolithic ZrB2–SiC composites were successfully fabricated via vacuum hot-pressing sintering. Oxidation tests were carried out at 1400°C and 1500°C on both monolithic and laminated composites. Laminated composites exhibited a better oxidation resistance than monolithic composites. And laminated and monolithic ZrB2–SiC composites showed very different oxidation mechanisms with awl shape oxidation and layer by layer oxidation respectively. All the results implied that the oxidation resistance of laminated composites was better than monolithic composites due to the special structure.
