Abstract

Oxidation absorption of gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) using Fenton-like advanced oxidation systems in a bubble column reactor was investigated for the first time. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of main process parameters (Fe3+ and Cu2+ concentrations, H2O2 concentration, solution temperature, H2S inlet concentration, initial solution pH, and gas flow rate) on H2S removal. Reaction products and free radicals of the H2S removal process were measured. Mechanism and reaction paths of H2S removal were also proposed. The results indicated that H2S removal efficiency was increased by increasing the Fe3+/Cu2+ concentration and was reduced by increasing the H2S inlet concentration and gas flow rate. Increasing the H2O2 concentration, initial solution pH, and solution temperature could increase at first and then reduce H2S removal efficiency. H2S removal by oxidation of hydroxyl radicals is the main removal pathway. The main products of H2S removal are sulfuric acid, elemental sulfur, and cop...
