Abstract

Oxford University's chemistry department, one of the largest and most distinguished chemistry departments in the Western world, has raised venture capital and other funding for the construction of a $100 million research laboratory. Scheduled for completion in 2003, the laboratory will be the first newly constructed chemistry laboratory to be built at the university in 50 years and will provide facilities for experimental research in chemistry and related biological and physical sciences. We believe that the new laboratory will provide the best possible environment for research and enable us not only to maintain our position as one of the world's leading chemistry departments, but also to enhance that position and our links with industry, declares chemistry professor W. Graham Richards, who is chairman of the department.
