Abstract

e14665 Background: Shorter oxaliplatin infusion time would shorten overall treatment time, decompress crowded chemotherapy units, and improve patient satisfaction. Oxaliplatin at a dose of 85mg/m2 is administered over 120 minutes in the standard FOLFOX regimen. An alternative regimen is CapeOx (capecitabine plus oxaliplatin) in which the dose of oxaliplatin is 130mg/m2, also infused over 120 minutes. Not shortening the length of oxaliplatin infusion has been based in large part on concern for hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) if infused too quickly. Methods: We first reviewed our institutional experience to assure that the rates of HSR were not increased in the Cape Ox regimen, using computerized pharmacy records to identify all patients who received oxaliplatin at our institution between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2013.
