Abstract

RAZIN E. (1988) Ownership structure and linkage patterns of industry in Israel's development towns, Reg. Studies 22, 19–31. Effects of ownership characteristics on input and output linkage patterns of plants in Israel's development towns are examined, and their implications for the advancement of the towns are discussed. The study is based on a survey of 130 plants. Non-local ownership, particularly in conjunction with a non-local head office, was found to reduce local linkages. Non-local head offices facilitated the formation of complex linkage patterns associated with marketing final demand and export products. Plants of multi-plant firms showed low export propensity. Complex management structure was associated with complex linkage patterns and with few local linkages, but plants of firms having the most complex structures had somewhat stronger local service linkages.
