Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the United States (US) Government program for Fusion Nuclear Technology (FNT) development, which is funded and managed by the US Department of Energy (DOE). We will first summarize the key features of the FNT program and then review its scope, organization, and objectives. Highlights of accomplishments and status of the FNT program in experiments, facilities, and analytical methods development will be discussed, summarizing the many papers presenting details of the US FNT program at the International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology. We will continue with discussions of planning and strategy, interfaces with other programs, international cooperation and budgets. Some concluding remarks will provide our closing perspective on nuclear technology for fusion.
