Abstract

An overview of selected recent experiments carried out at the Mainz Microtron MAMI with real and virtual photons up to energies of 855 MeV is given. The main goal is to study the low‐energy structure of hadrons involving measurements of nucleon form factors, virtual compton scattering, helicity structure of the γN‐interaction and GDH sum rule, meson production in the resonance region, magnetic moment of the Δ(1232), polarizability of nucleons and pions, parity violating ep‐scattering, and others. At present, an energy upgrade to 1.5 GeV (MAMI C) is close to completion. The status of the new accelerator section and experimental setups are briefly described and an outlook to the planned physics program is given.
