Abstract

The overview of some analytical and numerical strategies for scattering from the target, the rough surface is presented in this paper. For the analytical strategies, the Small Perturbation Method and its high order computational strategy, the Kirchhoff Approximation and its high order or modified method, the Two Scale Method and its modified version, etc., are discussed and compared; For the numerical strategies, the Method of Moments (MOM), the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD), the Finite Element Method (FEM), and their improved strategies, such as the high order MOM, the parallel MOM, the Fast Multipole Method (FMM), the high order FDTD, and the high order FEM, etc., are clarified and reviewed. For some aspects, such as, the roughness, the accuracy, the computational amount, and the efficiency, etc., the advantage and disadvantage of these analytical and numerical strategies are concluded. This studies will make sense in several areas, such as the scattering from the target/rough surface, computational electromagnetics, optics, remote sensing, radar surveillance, and oceanic marine military science, etc..
