Abstract

The extinct froghopper family Sinoalidae is exclusively documented in the Middle to Upper Jurassic of northeastern China and mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber of northern Myanmar. Sinoalids in Kachin amber are overviewed herein with some new material reported. Wangala kachinensis gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated, and a new tribe of the subfamily Juroalinae, Wangalini trib. nov., is erected to accommodate the new genus and Cretomultinervis Fu, Szwedo et Huang, 2021. With the current study, eleven sinoalid genera along with fourteen species attributed to two tribes are now known from Kachin amber, suggesting that the Sinoalidae were very prosperous and highly diversified in mid-Cretaceous.
