The detectors and electronics of the muon spectrometer of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment will be upgraded to cope with the new, challenging data-taking conditions expected at the High Luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). These upgrades will improve the present tracking and triggering capabilities. An overview of the upgrade activities is presented.
