Abstract

Power line communication (PLC) techniques are used for a communication technique for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) in Korea. High speed (HS) PLC specified in ISO/IEC12139-1 and HomePlug Green PHY (HPGP) are widely deployed for remote metering. However, due to severe distortion and noise at the received signal on the power line, it is not easy to keep the metering success rate above a target value, especially on the underground power line. The metering success rate is closely related to the bit error rate (BER). Recently, in order to improve communication reliability, the internet of things (IoT) PLC has been proposed. In this paper, the architecture of the IoT PLC is described briefly. And the performances of the IoT PLC are provided in terms of the BER.
