Abstract

This column highlights the Chapters' activities during 2009 and the structural changes necessary for the current and future activities. It was written in January but published in May because of the time delay in preparing it. One year ago, I reported about starting a new team of the Chapters and Membership Development Department (CMD), and now I am reporting about the recent structural changes in the department. A few changes were necessary in the current and future CMD activities to manage with the new trends and developments. There are two new committees. The Regional Workshop Committee and the Leadership Workshop Committee have been replaced by the new Workshop Committee, and the Student Branch Chapter Development Committee was created. This new committee will support the existing IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Student Branch Chapters and focus on increasing the number of IAS Chapters. An ad hoc committee is focusing on the Chapters' Web contest to enhance the appearance of the Web sites. The principle “one region one area chair” was successful, as no change was necessary.
