Abstract
Recently, we have witnessed the arrival of several government initiatives designed to reduce the length of NHS waiting lists. All are agreed that reducing waiting list sizes is a high priority. Kennard et al have conducted a local audit and have raised concerns about the means to that end. Of particular concern to the current generation of trainees is the perception that the current investment is not directed adequately directed towards the improvement of the existing infrastructure or of the surgeons of the future.
