Abstract
This study deals with the overall properties of nonlinear composites. A modified secant approach making use of the second moment of the stress field over the individual phases is proposed. It coincides with Ponte Castaneda’s variational procedure. Its predictions are compared with those of the classical secant and incremental formulations.
