Abstract

This paper summarizes GPS intelligent vehicle monitoring system (IVMS) designed by USTC GPS lab for Xiamen City which has performed so excellent effects with peculiarity of rapidity, accuracy, precision and reliability. The paper elucidates our innovative research and original works on IVMS which include 3 crucial technical links: One is highest speed of supervisory system, namely the capacity of the IVMS. Key technique lies in the digital mobil communication protocol for special purpose in which the location data being transported have been mostly compressed. Another is our intelligent monitoring software which uses vector map structure to show interface of whole city GIS with the multiple levels for user management database. The intelligent software also carries out the real-time correction for the deviation between vehicle locus and actual travel road surface. Third and most important aspect is our GIS-VMAG (Vector Map Automatic Generation) software used in producing vector map for IVMS. This new approach includes three key steps: Map Layers Automatic Extraction, Road Network Automatic Vectorization, Map Automatic Geo-adjusting with road GPS tracks, which are all different from typical procedures.
