Abstract
The first over-10 mW broadband fibre light source at 635 nm is reported. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the spectrum is 1.8 nm. By comparing the maximum amplified spontaneous emission intensity of a Pr3+-doped fibre (PDF) with that of a Pr3+-and-Yb3+ codoped fibre (PYDF) pumped by the same 448 nm GaN laser diode, it was found that the emission intensity at 635 nm was over 200 times higher for the PDF.
