Abstract

This survey encompasses a 10 year (1961 to 1970) experience at the St. Mary's Long Beach Hospital, during which 37 patients underwent operation for ovarian tumors in pregnancy. There were 35,461 live births during this period, for an incidence of ovarian tumors complicating pregnancy in this study of one in 958. The cases are analyzed with particular emphasis on the length of gestation at the time of operation, the operative and pathology findings, and the outcome of the pregnancy. Thirty-two per cent of the cases were from the author's private practice. There were 3 ovarian carcinomas in the study group, a somewhat higher incidence than usually reported.
