Abstract

Among extra-uterine pregnancies, ovarian Ž pregnancies are rare 0.5]3% of all ectopic gestaw x. tions or one in 7000]40 000 live births 1 and only very rarely do they advance up to 24 weeks w x 2 . Our case occurred in a 25-year-old female q2 Ž . Para 3 two alive LMP 6 September 1995, who presented at the Fuller Health Clinic, Ekosodin village, Benin City on 7 August 1996 with a 2month history of loss of fetal movement. Patient was unbooked and index pregnancy had been essentially uneventful. Essential finding on examination was a 34-week size abdomino]pelvic mass with fetus in oblique lie and fetal head in the right iliac fossa, fetal heart sounds were not heard. The sonologist reported an intra-uterine gestation of approximately 33 weeks with placenta on the anterior wall and confirmed intra-uterine death. Since the lie and the cervix were unfavorable a cesarean section was carried out.
