Abstract

The Ti–22Zr–9Nb–2Sn (at%) metastable β-titanium alloy was manufactured by in situ laser powder bed fusion process from elemental powders. Mechanical characterization via cyclic tensile tests revealed an exceptionally high strain-hardening. Such a strain-hardenability is induced by a massive stress-induced martensitic transformation from the β to the α’’ phase.
