Abstract

ABSTRACT Structural controllability is an important consideration in The synthesis of control systems. However, owing to the direct use of numerical algebraic tests, controllability may suffer from several problems. State structural controllability also has a deficiency, as demonstrated by a counter-example. In this paper, the concept of and condition for output structural controllability are introduced. Based on this condition, a new approach to the synthesis of control structures for chemical plants is described. The ease and flexibility of the output structural controllability condition in the synthesis of control systems for chemical plants is demonstrated through a comprehensive case study.
