Abstract

(Obstet Gynecol. 2021;137:56–61) Up to 74% of women are given antibiotics for various indications during pregnancy. Patients who report an allergy to penicillin are given other broad-spectrum antibiotics, which can increase the risk for antibiotic resistance and mortality. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends the testing of pregnant women who report having a penicillin allergy. However, little is known about allergy testing in pregnancy. The aim of this study is to examine the feasibility, acceptance and safety of outpatient testing for women with penicillin allergy in pregnancy.
