Abstract

The results of geophysical studies for solving geotechnical problems in urban constructions of Albanian cities are treated. The phenomenon, which is characterized by an aggressive exploitation of the territory, related also with massive shifting of population and economical activities toward the main centers, was evidenced in Albania. The urban and social development of today's Albanian cities is followed with difficulty-handled geotechnicaI problems. Particularly in Tirana, capital of Albania, and in the main Albanian harbor Durresi, both of them increased about 2.5-3 times in the last 5 years, these phenomena are more evident. These phenomena are as results of extensions in existing buildings, new infrastructure works, new buildings in the downstream area of the dams, construction of buildings in non stable slopes, construction of the new high buildings without the proper geologieal-engineering studies and destroy of equilibrium in ecological systems through deforestation.
