Abstract

The criteria allowing to distinguish the outer and inner sphere electrochemical steps of the metal complex electrode reactions have been considered. The mechanism of an electrochemical step may be elucidated if one takes into account the dependence of the electrode reaction rate on the double layer structure, electrode material, the mobility of the inner sphere ligands and the particles adsorbed on the electrode and other factors. The outer sphere and inner sphere mechanisms of electrochemical step may occur both in the case when inner sphere chemical steps take place and when they do not.
