Abstract

Stricture formation is a well-known complication among hypopharyngeal cancer patients undergoing RT. Due to unwarranted hotspots within the high dose target volume, there are concerns that there might be an increase in stricture formation in patients treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Therefore, we retrospectively reviewed our hypopharyngeal cancer (HPC) patients treated with or without IMRT to see if there is a difference in the stricture rates. Furthermore, we report our experience in using RT for HPC and we sought to identify factors predictive of overall treatment outcome.
