Abstract
Summary An investigation into the availability of treatment modalities and physiotherapy practice for treatment of osteo-arthritis of the hip joint was undertaken by means of a postal questionnaire. The results showed that most treatment modalities were available to most respondents, with the exception of pulsed electromagnetic energy, gymnasium, hydrotherapy and ‘OA school’. The treatments of choice most often indicated by physiotherapists were exercise and shortwave diathermy. The treatment modalities which physiotherapists regard as optimum for this condition, given unlimited resources, were hydrotherapy, home exercises, and individual exercises.
