Abstract
From late in the 1530s, this work was being undertaken by Leo Jud, Zwingli's close companion and the leading figure in the translation of the Bible into Alemannic. Bullinger builds on this analogy to argue that God has declared to the people His commandments and instructions for how they should order their affairs. This crucial theme of the Christian Moses, who teaches all, and not just the Israelites, is also to be found in other Zurich writers, such as Pellikan, who addressed the subject in the preface to his biblical commentaries. Bullinger compares the Twelve Tables of Roman law to the Ten Commandments to argue that everything that is embodied in Greek and Roman learning has been surpassed by the Word of God.
