Abstract
Background: Prior to development of our newsletter staff would be informed of practice changes, educational opportunities, and other unit activities through staff meetings or by word of mouth. Objectives: Promote staff driven initiative to develop and maintain a PACU newsletter that was educational, informative, social and creative to add in communication of information to all staff members. Promote staff empowerment to explore opportunities to enhance communication of information to staff Implementation and Successful practice. The 309 Gazette was created and developed by several staff members. One nurse took the role of editor and layout designer to optimize the appearance and items to be included. Aspects covered are current practice changes, hospital news and updates, spirituality or cultural offerings, recipe exchanges and social/entertainment updates. We have published over ten newsletters and each time we have improved it. The staff has been innovative in their articles and in promoting sharing of information for all staff members. Implications: Communication of information and methods to promote staff involvement in unit activities can often be a challenge in our diverse day-to-day practice. We have developed a wonderful avenue for staff to be creative and to share information and provide communication for the entire staff.
