Abstract

About 2 years ago, after a record number of patient visits, parent complaints because of long waits, and a staff that was tired of treating patients in hall beds, we proposed that our pediatric emergency department be remodeled. Although our pediatric hospital was only 9 years old, the emergency department quickly outgrew its 13-bed capacity. Our request was given approval, especially after we began placing stretchers in the main lobby area of the hospital and dubbed the area “The ED annex.”
