Abstract
The January issue of The Lancet Infectious Diseases marks the time when we introduce the new artist that will accompany the journal throughout the coming year with the creation of the artwork that will feature on our covers. The competition for the cover artist for the journal for 2022 resulted in the landmark appointment of our first female cover artist since the journal was established in 2001. The winner is Chiara Vercesi, an Italian artist living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, who has demonstrated impressive capacity to turn a medical summary on prevention of schistosomiasis in Africa into a colourful and lively image that captures perfectly our commitment not to lose our attention on important developments in the prevention and management of neglected tropical diseases and the health of populations in low-resource countries.
