Abstract

THE NOVA IN CYGNUS.—This object has continued to decline in bri lliancy at a fairly steady rate. Mr. Denning writes that since the end of August the star has lost light at a rate equivalent to one-tenth of a magnitude daily. The nova has exhibited features differing in several respects from those of the bright novæ of 1901 (Perseid) and 1918 (Aquilid), which showed remarkable fluctuations in their declining stages and presented phenomena analogous to those of ordinary variable stars. It seems, in fact, as though the new stars of 1901 and 1918, after their great outburst and quick decline, were subject to a series of minor outbursts affecting them at short and fairly regular intervals.
