Abstract

Although the most common stomach cancer is adenocarcinoma, there are other types of stomach cancers such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), neuroendocrine tumors, and gastric lymphoma. Their onset has been linked to environmental factors. They usually progress asymptomatically until locally advanced stages, when they can give rise to a wide variety of symptoms. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy collection is the diagnostic method of choice. Other techniques such as echoendoscopy, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging are used for staging. There are a variety of treatments ranging from endoscopic, such as mucosectomy or submucosal dissection, to surgical to systemic treatments.
