Abstract

In addition to the gravitational force, there are several other, much smaller, forces that are encountered by a satellite. They lead to perturbations of the satellite’s orbit Such forces are caused by: 1. Air resistance (neutral particle drag) 2. Solar wind (maximum pressure near Earth p = 9.02 μPa) 3. Meteorite impact 4. Magnetic field 5. Electrical charge of the ionosphere (charged particle drag) 6. Thrust by satellite-borne rockets
