Abstract

Although the Science Museum has held the large collection of papers of the analytical and industrial consulting chemist, Oswald Silberrad, since 1980, it has never been consulted and it is only thanks to the recent sterling work of the National Cataloguing Unit for the Archives of Contemporary Scientists (NCUACS) that it now can be and the range of Silberrad's work over more than fifty years fully appreciated. The NCUACS listing of the collection indicates a wealth of both biographical material and material relating to his many years of research and consultancy. This paper, which identifies much of that work, will hopefully encourage the study and evaluation of his contributions, in particular to military technology.
