Abstract

The lateral and transcranial approach, each of which with its specific indication, have been practiced for orbital tumor surgery. But because the surgical field is relatively narrow, many surgeons have sought to modify these methods to get a wider surgical field. the author describes in this paper his new approach, Osteoblastic orbitotomy, which is a modification of both of the approaches. Osteoblastic orbitotomy is basically composed of coronal skin incision and en bloc osteotomies, type I and type II osteotomy. the superior orbital margin and the whole lateral wall are resected in type I osteotomy, and the roof of the orbit with low frontal craniotomy is added to them in type II osteotomy. Four cases, in whom tumors were removed completely and safely, were operated; the postoperative cosmetic results were satisfactory.
