Abstract

Osteochondral autograft transplantation is an acceptable treatment option for symptomatic chondral lesions of the femur. Animal and human studies have showed cartilage viability at 2 years transplantation. Clinical evidence shows an overall 85% average rate of efficacy in diminishing the pain and swelling associated with chondral lesions. Clinical results are best optimized by using this technique for small focal lesions ( 2 ).
