Abstract

The manuf. of tape cast bioactive glasses allows the build up of layers and therefore the prodn. of complex shapes. This therefore has applications to tissue repair where specific shapes are required such as repair of craniofacial defects. Tape cast disks sintered at temps. from 800 Deg to 1000 Deg for 3 or 6 h were used to culture primary human osteoblasts. Hydroxyapatite formation, cell attachment, cell death, and nodule formation were studied. It was found that cell death and nodule formation were dependent on Si release concns. and the development of the HA layer. [on SciFinder (R)]
