Abstract

The article analyzes the features of the Swedish state policy transformation towards the Sami in the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries. The author identifies the main stages of the swedishization policy and characterizes the activities of the first Sami public organizations and their role in the political development of the Sami people. The research is based on the various sources - legislative acts, statistical and publicist materials of the period mentioned above. The policy of norwegianization is compared with swedishization policy. The author concludes that there were differences in the approaches to the Sami population by the Swedish and Norwegian governments.
