Abstract

After the earthquake in Skopje on July 26, 1963, a large number of students from the primary schools in the city were evacuated to various parts of the Yugoslav Federation. In Serbia, a number of groups of students were accepted in various towns and resorts. The largest reception centers were located in Leskovac, Pionirski grad, Šabac, and Bogovađa.Since the earthquake severely damaged a large number of school buildings in which teaching could be conducted in the new school year 1963/1964, measures were taken to establish schools in the Macedonian teaching language in those places of Yugoslavia where children from Skopje were evacuated. On October 21, 1963, the Primary School in Macedonian teaching language for the evacuated children from Skopje in Leskovac was founded. Its founder was the Assembly of the Municipality of Leskovac. The main activity of the School was education, upbringing, and boarding accommodation of students aged 7 to 15 years. It was an institution for compulsory eight-year schooling and was intended for the evacuated students from Skopje. The first semester lasted from October 21, 1963, to January 28, 1964, and the second semester from February 6 to June 13, 1964. The number of students varied constantly. The School was disbanded on August 31, 1964, because there were no longer any justified reasons for its existence and the following school year 1964/1965.
