Abstract

The osmotic pressure of digesta was markedly increased in the stomach of rats fed on diets containing 5% amaranth irrespective of the presence or absence of 5% sugar beet fiber. Such was not the case in the intestines, the osmotic pressure of the cecal contents being closely controlled to about 270 mOsm/kg even after ingesting the amaranth-containing diets.
