Abstract

Osmotic compressibilities were determined as a function of temperature for solutions of polystyrene in cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane by static light scattering, the measurements extending well below the theta temperature, T = θ. Virial coefficients extracted from the data are compared with literature values obtained by light scattering, membrane osmometry, and phase equilibrium measurements, and successfully correlated over wide ranges of molecular weight, temperature, and solvent quality. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
