Abstract

The osmotic coefficients of the mixed electrolyte solution {yK2SO4+(1−y)Mg(NO3)2}(aq) have been measured by the isopiestic method, at the temperatureT=298.15 K. The activity coefficients of K2SO4and Mg(NO3)2were calculated by Scatchard's neutral-electrolyte method and by Pitzer and Kim's treatment for mixed electrolyte solutions. The results are used for calculation of the excess Gibbs energy as a function of ionic strength and ionic-strength fraction of K2SO4, and also as a test of Zdanovskii's rule of linearity.
